Garnett is situated at the intersection of U.S. Highways 59, 169, and Kansas Highway 31. The interconnecting arteries provide a direct route 60 miles northeast to the Kansas City metropolitan area. Interstate Highway 35 is but 20 miles north of Garnett, and Lawrence, with its Interstate 70 connection, is just 50 miles north of U.S. 59. Mileage information: Chanute, Kansas 50 miles south Garnett is served by the Union Pacific railroad. The area is served by six interstate and intrastate truck lines, with piggy-back service available within a 70 mile drive to Kansas City. Kansas City International Airport serves as a nearby hub for American, Continental, Southwest, US Air, United, TWA, Delta, America West, Midwest Express, and Northwest airlines. Garnett Municipal Airport, located just outside the city limits, provides general aviation to its 2,400 ft. paved and lighted runway.
