Garnett/Anderson
County chosen as "E-Community"
Pilot Program Supports Economic Growth at Local Level
NetWork Kansas has chosen Garnett/Anderson County
as one of 6 communities to participate in a new pilot program designed
to foster economic growth by creating a more entrepreneurial environment
across the state. Communities selected to become a NetWork Kansas
E-Community will benefit from an injection of capital to help start
and grow businesses as well as education and expertise provided
by more than 400 NetWork Kansas Resource Partners.
"Garnett, and Anderson county are excited about being chosen as an E-Community”,
said Dennis Arnold, ACDA Director. The funds generated through the tax credits
will give a jump start to our entrepreneurial efforts and allow us to give local
small businesses a hand."
Garnett/Anderson County has been allocated $100,000 in tax credits to raise funds
for a local loan/grant program for small businesses and entrepreneurs. Donors
who give to the fund receive a 75% credit toward their state tax liability. According
to Arnold, “By taking advantage of federal and state deductions on top
of the credit, depending on an individual’s tax situation, a donor can
actually receive more money back than what they donate and help the community
at the same time.”
"
The best way to improve economic and community development in rural communities
is to foster entrepreneurship," said NetWork Kansas Director, Steve Radley. "After
conducting 32 town hall meetings and awarding more than $240,000 in loans and
grants to small businesses across the state during the past 15 months, we have
learned that the best way to achieve success is by empowering local leaders to
engage rural entrepreneurship.
Communities
chosen to become E-Communities will partner with NetWork Kansas
to achieve the following results: 1) Through a tax
credit grant, communities will
establish a fund for entrepreneurs and small business owners that is administered
at the local level; 2) Each community will map local, regional and state assets
available to assist entrepreneurs and businesses; 3) The establishment of a
long-term tracking accountability system to measure business
and economic growth; and 4)
A long term partnership with more than 400 NetWork Kansas partners statewide
that assist entrepreneurs and small businesses to provide a positive impact
on the Kansas economy.
NetWork
Kansas is allocating $1 million in tax credits in support of
the E-Community Program. Other communities selected for the E-Community
opportunity include Cowley
County, Great Bend/Barton County, Rawlins County, Sterling-Alden/Rice County
and Thomas County.
